What does music insurance cover?

Want to find out even more about our cover? If you're wondering about what's included then we've answered a few questions for you below.

Am I covered to take my instruments abroad?

Yes! Our music insurance includes up to 30 days of worldwide cover as standard so you can take your instruments abroad with you. If you’re planning on heading away for even longer, then our Global Travel option gives you 365 days of cover, anywhere in the world (maximum 60 days per trip).

Instruments and equipment must be held in a purpose-designed equipment case while travelling. We offer up to £300 to cover accidental damage to your purpose-designed equipment case should it become damaged in transit and theft is covered, providing you can demonstrate forcible entry into the bag or suitcase.

Cover does not apply if your instruments have been left unattended while you’re away from your insured location (which could be your flat, holiday property or secure property that you’re staying in while abroad).

Public Liability insurance for musicians does not extend to North America.

Are musical instruments covered as part of my home insurance?

Your home insurance policy may cover your musical instruments, but you could also find that cover is excluded or limited to a certain sum insured; or where and when your instruments can be covered. For example, cover outside of the home can be excluded, as well as cover for instruments in your vehicle or using them whilst performing. Please check with your home insurance provider about their cover and limits.

Our specialist insurance for musical instruments and equipment means that as a musician, you get a cover that suits you and can protect you while you’re away from your home.

What is Public Liability insurance?

Public Liability insurance can protect musicians against potential costs for third-party claims made against you if you injure someone or damage their property whilst performing or going about your musical activity.

For example, if your equipment was to fall and injure a member of the audience, then you may be liable to claims from the injured party. With Public Liability insurance for musicians, subject to the terms and conditions of the policy, your cover can protect you against the costs of these claims. We offer up to £1million in Public Liability insurance as standard and you can also choose to increase this to cover yourself and up to four band members with our £5million Public Liability option.

Do I need Public Liability insurance before I start playing gigs?

Many venue owners may require musicians to have Public Liability insurance before they can play gigs, which is why we automatically provide you with up to £1million worth of Public Liability cover. Subject to the terms and conditions of the policy, this can cover potential costs incurred in the event of someone taking you to court for damages you have caused to their property or even an injury to a third-party, whilst going about your musical activity.
