About equipment and instruments
1) If I want to include my CD collection with my insurance, do you require receipts to be held for all the CDs or just a list of my collection? What happens if I buy new CDs?- We don't need a list of your collection – all we need is a demonstration of ownership of those items.
2) Is lighting and video equipment covered?- Yes – we can cover lighting, video equipment and other stage effects like smoke, snow and bubble machines. We can also cover stage clothing!
If you do have a bubble machine, please ensure you review the amount of public liability you buy as a large portion of the liability claims we get have occurred from people slipping on the slippery floor!
- Yes – we can cover lighting, video equipment and other stage effects like smoke, snow and bubble machines. We can also cover stage clothing!
4) We have a PA system comprising a large number of items. We keep a full record of the equipment in Excel format. Can you accept this if we apply online?- Unfortunately we are unable to accept item lists by email. We do have an upload function in the plan but it will not be available for a while.
5) I am a sound engineer who does live gigs, so I take some equipment to gigs. I also store equipment at big yellow storage and some at home, I also travel by car with equipment. Does Musicguard cover all of that?- Yes, although you will probably need to take out cover over the phone as the Big Yellow Storage will need to be covered by endorsement on your policy and we may need to discuss with you what security is in place at this location. Please make sure that when transporting equipment by car that you have the required security measures in place.
6) Are saxophones included under Orchestralguard or would they require Musicguard?- They can be covered under either policy – one may be cheaper than the other so it's worth getting quotes from both.
7) You say that you do not cover 'consumables' such as "...leads, cables...". I can appreciate that items like guitar leads are somewhat expendable but we probably have approaching £1,000 of multicores, looms, mic and speaker cables. Can these be covered?- We only cover leads over £100 (individual value) – providing the replacement cost of a cable is £100 or over, you can list it on your policy. Please list all insurable cables individually.
8) Do I need to specify every lead etc or will "case containing 10 various PA leads" and a value be OK?- We only cover leads over £100 (individual value) and would prefer it if you listed insurable cables individually.
9) Does sound equipment fall under the cover?- Yes – PA, monitors, amps, speaker cabs are all covered under the Musicguard policy.
10) Does your insurance policy cover my sequencing software and softsynths or is there an option I must check?- Musicguard does cover software (sequencing, softsynths, VSTs and other plugins) provided that in the event of a claim the software cannot be re-installed from a disc or re-activated.
11) Can I insure sheet music/books on this site?- Yes you can, although it's worth mentioning that we do have a minimum claim amount of £100.
12) Can you insure a rodeo bull or multiride?- Sorry – we don't offer cover for rodeo bulls or multirides at the moment. We'd suggest contacting a local insurance broker who may be able to help further.
13) I'm trying to insure a drum kit which consists of 17 pieces of equipment. How do I go about listing this?- We recommend that you list each item individually to be insured correctly, detailing each item's make, model, serial number (if applicable) and replacement value as new.
14) What do you require if items of equipment don't have serial numbers?- For items below £750 we do not require the serial number. Any items over £750 without a serial number should be marked with your postcode using an ultra violet pen or other marking method (Datatag for instance). When you take out cover and get to the equipment page, enter the word 'Postcoded' in the serial number box.
